This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tonight @ The Cherry Tree

I think there might be some Funk on the menu tonight with the Charles Gordon Quartet. Charles is into Herbie Hancock and with Kenny Hewitt on tenor, Keith Nicholson on bass and Lloyd Howell on drums it isn't going to be a vicarage tea party - it will get the adren. moving and complement the food.
Further CT news - Jo Harrup has been such a success on her three previous visits to the restaurant that the management have managed to book her for another visit before the end of the year, on the 13th December. They are particularly fortunate to have been able to arrange this as Jo is very much in demand not least with her present residency at the Savoy Hotel in London.
At the Cherry Tree Jo will, at her own request, again be supported by the Paul Edis Trio.
