Preview: Sage Gateshead International Jazz Festival - 8

12 Points! at Gateshead Northern Rock Foundation Hall 2:00pm. Sunday March 27. Sunday afternoon in the Northern Rock Foundation Hall features the best of Europe's emerging talent on the contemporary jazz scene in a three set concert.
Donkey Monkey is a duo of French pianist Eve Risser and Japanese drummer Yuko Oshima in which piano meets Japanese rock in a glorious cacophony of sound.
Norwegian vocalist Mari Kvien Brunvoll uses loops and other electronica to produce a personal take on the jazz world.
trio VD return to Tyneside to play what is guaranteed to be a storming set. Guitar wizard Chris Sharkey, born and bred just up the road from the venue, will take the stage with alto saxophonist Christophe de Bezenac and drum demon Chris Bussey. The Northern Rock is sure to be rocking Sunday afternoon.

Bebop Spoken Here -- Here, being the north-east of England -- centred in the blues heartland of Newcastle and reaching down to the Tees Delta and looking upwards to the Land of the Kilt.
Not a very original title, I know; not even an accurate one as my taste, whilst centred around the music of Bird and Diz, extends in many directions and I listen to everything from King Oliver to Chick Corea and beyond. Not forgetting the Great American Songbook the contents of which has provided the inspiration for much great jazz and quality popular singing for round about a century.
The idea of this blog is for you to share your thoughts and pass on your comments on discs, gigs, jazz - music in general. If you've been to a gig/concert or heard a CD that knocked you sideways please share your views with us. Tell us about your favourites, your memories, your dislikes.
